Constructed from heavy jungle cloth and lined with warm alpaca wool, the N-1 remains one of the most sought-after vintage military jackets ever produced.
This particular example carries a rare hand-applied stencil reading "USS MULLANY 059" on the reverse. The USS Mullany (DD-528) was a Fletcher-class destroyer commissioned in 1943 that served extensively in the Pacific during World War II. In April 1945, while supporting operations off Okinawa, the ship was struck by a Japanese kamikaze aircraft, resulting in heavy casualties and severe damage. Despite the attack, the vessel survived and continued its service.
Adding to the jacket's character are period repairs, wear, and areas of distressing visible on the sleeve and back panel. While their exact origin cannot be verified, they contribute to the remarkable history and authenticity of the garment.
